轻排球也称为气排球，是一项从传统排球演变而来的新型运动，起源于20世纪80年代的中国。这项运动提供了一个既有趣又易于学习和参与的方式，非常适合锻炼和社交活动。通常有以下两种形态：
竞技气排：由各个组织和团体举办各式各样，比较正式的比赛，有各级政府，赞助商的支持，球队来自全国，或者世界各地，技术水平整体都比较高，有比较专业的裁判和义工团队，设有名次，奖杯，奖金，以及媒体报导等等
养生轻排：是球友们每星期参加当地的轻排球活动，基本都是认识，固定的球友，平时也不时会举办小型比赛，但是大家主要是通过这个运动来娱乐，健身，交友和参与社会活动。它就像运动场上的卡拉OK或广场舞！
